A Winter Wonderland Wedding

For the bride that has always dreamed of a Winter Wonderland Wedding...this one is for you!

I was hired by the Lisa Gallagher to work with her and Event Planner extraordinaire Kathy Cronin of KMC Productions to design the invitations and reception collateral for her daughter Kate's winter wedding. The color palette was a shimmery white, silver, graphite and soft blue. The wedding was held at The Four Season's Boston on December 1st of 2012. The idea for the invitation design was to make guests feel as if they were opening a present. The three layer invitation was wrapped in vellum and placed inside a blue box and tied with a graphite satin ribbon. To protect the invitation boxes we used an additional shipping box with a custom printed address label wrap. I designed Kate and Michael their own logo that was used throughout the wedding they even had it etched in ice over the raw bar. I have to admit that was a first for me and The Four Seasons did a flawless job with it!

Michael is from London so there were many out of town guests and family members that would be arriving early. I designed a "Welcome to Boston" three panel fold out card advising guests on the wedding activities and things to do around the city! Each of these cards where placed in the welcome baskets filled with yummy treats from The Topsfield Bakeshop.

On the day of the wedding the weather could not have been more perfect, I pulled into The Four Seasons just as the sky grew dark and the snow began to fall. In Boston there are two kinds of the snow you can get in December and thankfully for Kate and Michael it was the good kind. Big fluffy flakes fell from the sky melting as they hit the ground giving the look and feel of a winter wonderland but without the mess.

I was onsite to set up the place cards and let me tell you the floral design for the place card table by Honey McCue of Lotus Designs was literally jaw dropping! Two half moon tables were put together with a tree in the middle. The linens by Table Toppers of Newton were unlike anything I had ever seen. I was early and watched the staff attached all the layers of tulle by hand to the table...AMAZING is all I can say. It's nice to be onsite the day of a wedding and see how everything comes together, I observed the real flowers being added to the wedding cake by Mary owner of the Topsfield Bake Shop and then witness first hand the amount of time and effort that goes into setting up all the lighting by Suzanne B. Lowell Lighting Design.

As a graphic designer I of course believe the invitation plays an important roll in the wedding because it sets the tone for the entire day. That being said equally important is the DRESS...Kate's couture gown was designed by Boston Designer Daniel Faucher Couture. He also designed her rehearsal dinner outfit and mother of the bride Lisa's navy gown...all the designs were STUNNING! The images below are from Daniel Faucher Couture's FB page I chose to use some of these images because I LOVE how you can see the designers "real" work space in the background.

I feel the need to chat about the men's attire, we all know it's not nearly as fun as the wedding dress but Michael and his groomsmen did a fabulous job representing London and the U.S. on the day of the wedding...how FABULOUS are the all the grooms socks, they even had matching suspenders too!

It has taken me FOREVER to write this blog mainly because I'm sad that it had end. MOB Lisa was sent to me by her friend Polly Allyn who I will be forever grateful to. Yes, this wedding was extraordinary and one-of-a-kind but so was the bride Kate and her mom Lisa. It was truly a memorable experience working with them both and hands down Lisa is the funniest person I have ever met... I miss her energy and her consent ability to make me laugh.

Here is a short clip of the wedding video by Artistic Wedding Films, thrilled that some of my paper collateral made it into the video. Pay attention to the Groom's speech and Kate's reaction...it was one of my favorite parts because you can tell just how genuine it was.

Congrats to Michael and Kate, I wish you both nothing but happiness, thank you for letting me be a part of your day.
